42nd WNCAA Cheerleading Competition

All blue to support to SSC Scions!

But not only to support our pep squad, we attended the 42nd WNCAA Cheerleading Competition because our prof in Journalism tasked us to make a news report about it. We can focus on whatever we want. The crowd, the competition itself, the ticket sales, or midget/junior/senior division. My news kinda highlighted the SPCP's performance because that, for me, was the routine I liked the most.

We were seated beside SBCA who were the loudest crowd! I loved how they were cheering for their school.

UA&P won the seniors division by the way. I do not have any decent photos from the event because I didn't bring my cam with me (I'm a very bad journalist). So all photos were grabbed from my friend, Vlad.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The St. Paul College of Pasig (SPCP) Junior Gladiators wowed the entire Ninoy Aquino stadium as they battled it out at the 42nd season of Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) cheerleading competition last Saturday, February 25.

"We were the last squad to perfect and we didn't know if the audience were still alive. But we were so happy and overwhelmed that even the other schools were cheering for us, " said the team caption, Yna de San Jose when asked about how they felt after their performance.

"We started rehearsing for the competition in July last year and we perform our routine during different events in our school to enhance our moves move," de San Jose said.

The SPCP Junior Gladiators' routine that caught the audiences' attention lead them to bag the 2nd place with an average score of 210 points.

Poveda College Junior Pep Squad was the ultimate stunner of the day, bagging the 1st place with a total score of 219 points and the Junior Red Lions from San Beda College Alabang got the 3rd place.

This season of WNCAA was hosted by Rizal Technological University (RTU) and an unexpected number of people who supported their schools reached up to 5,000.

"Each participant school was given 200 tickets to sell to their students. This morning, we were able to sell 1,800 tickets already and the number of people inside the stadium has probably reached 5,000 this afternoon," Iza Taharan, a representative from the ticket booth said in Filipino.

When asked about how this year's competition is different from the previous years, Ms. Vivan P. Manila, WNCAA national president said in Filipino, "this year's season of WNCAA is different from any other year because we almost filled the entire stadium. A lot of people came to support their school, family, and friends. This is the first time that RTU hosted WNCAA but it was very successful."
