Cinemalaya 2011

This year's Cinemalaya opened last July 15, 2011 with 13 competing films. The opening film Maskara, a movie about the late Johnny Del Gado's life was directed by Laurice Guillen. And the closing film Zombadings was a hit even in the mainstream cinema.

Our professor tasked us to watch one film and do a movie review about it. I originally planned to watch Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank but the tickets were sold out already. Me and my friend settled for Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa since the screening time was the most convenient for our schedules. Will post a seperate entry for the movie review.

Went to the opening with my masscomm batchmates.

With Direk Joel Lamangan and my classmate, Irish.

We also got the chance to visit CCP's museum and who would forget the controversial "Kulo" of Mideo Cruz? I have to say that his artwork is beautiful. Art is not meant for everybody to understand, that may be the reason why a lot of Filipinos are condemning him for his artwork.

If I had the time and money, I'd want to watch every film in the Cinemalaya. This year was really a huge success for indie film makers. If I'm not mistaken, four films from this year's Cinemalaya already conquered the mainstream and were very successful. I am getting even more excited for the next years of Cinemalaya!
